Peter Donegan is a man with Big shoes to fill..and they fit him just fine!
Peter Donegan is a British country artist, son of British music legend Lonnie Donegan, and a standout voice recognised by international audiences through both The Voice UK and Romania’s Vocea României, where he reached the Live Rounds as part of Team Smiley.
Here’s Peter Donegan performing on Vocea Romaniei last year!
Primarily a singer/songwriter and piano player, Peter picked up the acoustic guitar after his Dad passed away in 2002 and taught himself to play the mandolin, harmonica, banjo and ukulele.
Blending authentic storytelling with a powerhouse vocal delivery, Peter has established himself as a modern country artist with deep musical roots. His commitment to original songwriting earned international recognition when he won Male Vocalist of the Year and Original Song of the Year at the Texas Sounds International Country Music Awards for his single “Thank You Texas.”
In case you were wondering how Peter Donegan got Sir Tom Jones as his mentor, watch his audition where he plays ‘Bless The Broken Road’ below.
Peter was unintentionally born in London as his Dad Lonnie was still on tour when his mother (Lonnie’s then Manager) went into labour early, although the family were actually living in California where it was intended that he would be born. Peter was raised in Lake Tahoe, California then between Orlando, Florida and Malaga, Spain where the family spent quite some time.
No surprise then, from all this, that Peter loves Country music so much and considers himself a true British-American hybrid.
A scholar of the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation, Peter continues to develop his craft at the highest level, honouring the legacy of great songwriting while shaping his own distinctive voice. He is also a proud endorser of Vocalzone throat pastilles, specially designed for singers and trusted by professional vocalists worldwide.
“Dad gave me many great nuggets of advice,” Peter says. “But one has always stayed with me: If you’re going to have any chance in this industry, you’ve got to write your own songs. I took that advice to heart — and it’s finally paying off.”
The award-winning track “Thank You Texas” was co-written with Jerry Serrano and Madi Davis at the Buddy Holly Songwriting Retreat in Lubbock, Texas, where it was first performed at Lubbock High School, famously attended by Buddy Holly.
The single went on to achieve major chart success, holding the #1 position on the Hotdisc Top 40 for over four weeks and reaching #11 on the United DJ Heritage Chart, charting ahead of releases from Paul Simon, Dion, and The Pretenders.
With major television appearances, international awards, and chart success to his name, Peter Donegan is firmly establishing himself as an artist in his own right — honouring his heritage while confidently forging his own path in modern country music.”
Let’s see what Peter Donegan has to say about Vocalzone!
“Vocalzone has almost been a family tradition. My dad (Lonnie Donegan) used to swear by them and so do I!
As a singer nothing is more important than your voice and to take care of that voice, nothing is better than Vocalzone”
