If there is one thing to be said about Halflives, it is that it’s the existence of the artist itself that tells the story of how to break conventions, pre-established paths and industry norms.
Building her career brick by brick, and through it, sending a message of hope and encouragement to those who feel inadequate, left out and rejected, Halflives mastermind Linda Battilani has been releasing music since 2016 getting attention from the biggest media in the genre (BBC, Kerrang!, Alt Press…), continued support from all the main streaming platforms, and bringing together fans who now sell out venues across Europe and the UK.
Half way between pop and the nostalgia of mid-2000s alt rock, Halflives’ latest record How Much a Heart Can Take Before It Breaks is a fierce, unfiltered reflection on confronting the complexities of modern life in a fractured world. Written and self-produced by Linda Battilani, the five-track EP marks a bold evolution in sound and perspective – a raw yet refined blend of emotional introspection and sharp social commentary.
From the frantic defiance of “Eat Sleep Work Die!!! Repeat” to the buoyant catharsis of “perfectly broken”, the record tackles everything from capitalist burnout (“No Way Out”) and identity politics to personal resilience and queer empowerment (“Immortals”), all while staying heartbreakingly human. “This is the most political work I’ve ever put out”, says Battilani. “It’s like younger me and grown-up me came together to make music – there’s that raw rock energy from my early years, but with a new perspective and a more mature approach.”
Halflives exists to build community, create an outlet for emotion, and is about, in Linda’s own words “making music for the misfits, the rejected and those who feel left out”.
Now also going as far as co-producing her music, co-directing her music videos, co-designing her merch and more, Linda is embracing her position of creative force, unapologetically expressing her vision and the identity Halflives stands for. No matter who you are or where you’re from, you can take your shot.
Best experienced live, Halflives’ music is a collection of singalong anthems, an invitation to the expression of personal chaos, a message of unity, a celebration of resilience.
Halflives just came back from the “Golden Era” tour, a successful first 16-date headliner run across Europe and the UK, and is set to embark shortly on a series of summer shows and festivals.
