What can only be described as Punk n Roll here’s The Main Grains

No one said choosing a rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle was going to be easy, but no one said it was going to be so damn hard either, ask The Main Grains frontman Danny McCormack. The former Wildhearts bassist has had more than his fair share of knocks, some of his own design, some well out of his control. Some might say his rock ‘n’ roll road has been an extra rocky one, maybe even an Irvine Welsh filmin the making. You would’ve thought the guy could finally catch a break with the formation of The Main Grains, right?…Well, read on.

With Danny playing bass and taking the mic, he was joined by 3 fellow northern herberts; JJ Watt (ex-Spill 16/Whiskey Haze) and Ben Marsden (ex-Modern Day Dukes) respectively on guitars and Ginna Rhodes (ex-Phluid/Velvet Star) taking the drum stool and, yes The Main Grains were born. They proceeded to record a cracking debut long player in ‘Don’t Believe Everything You Think”. This 7 track EP marries the punk rock simplicity of The Ramones with the anthemic, songwriting suss of The Wildhearts, while maintaining the raw energy of both and that’s a good place for any band to start.

The Main Grains have just released this awesome lyric video for ‘The Rain Is Over Now’ check it out below.

The Main Grains pedal no frills rock ‘n’ roll that is up there with the best of them. Think The Ramones, think Cheap Trick and The Undertones, hell, even think The Yo-Yos! Think loud guitars, powerhouse beats and melodies so infectious you could catch a disease from them. If you are a fan of all things Wildhearts then The Main Grains could be your new favourite band, but it’s not been an easy ride so far.

2016 was looking good for The Main Grains, the record was well received by press and fans. A bunch of gigs supporting The Ginger Wildheart Band followed, including an emotional onstage reunion with Ginger Wildheart at The Brudenell Social Club in Leeds.  December tour dates were booked with The Wildhearts and all was looking peachy. Then tragedy struck, when following an aneurysm and a spell in hospital, the troubled bassist was forced to have his leg amputated below the knee.

Surely those dates would’ve been cancelled by any normal band, hell, that could have spelled the end before they even got started, but The Main Grains are no normal band and Danny McCormack and his band were not about to let their fans down. They played those dates with Danny sat on a stool, sounding just as good as before.

Underdogs have nothing to prove and nothing to lose, The Main Grains will continue to rock ‘n’ roll no matter whatever shit is thrown their way. More gigs have been booked for the Summer and into the Autumn, Danny is getting a prosthetic leg and new music is in the pipeline. Don’t believe everything you think, but do believe everything you hear and everything you feel. Rock ‘n’ roll is a life choice, believe in rock ‘n’ roll, believe in the underdog and believe in The Main Grains.
