Rachael is an experienced vocalist, recording artist, singing-voice-specialist and music educator.
She is one of a new breed of truly versatile singers and voice trainers, accomplished in jazz, contemporary-commercial music, and classical performance. She graduated from the Australian National University School of Music with a Bachelor of Music Jazz Performance, First Class Honours Classical Performance, and a Master of Music majoring in Classical Performance, where she received multiple awards, scholarships and a University Medal nomination.
Rachael has had the great privilege of studying and collaborating with many nationally and internationally renowned professionals in both jazz and classical disciplines including: Janice Chapman AUA MOA (London), David Aronson (Vienna State Opera), Carol Blaickner-Mayo (Vienna), Dominic Wheeler (Guildhall School of Music and Drama – London), Christina Wilson, Alan Hicks, Simon Kenway, David Miller, Geoffrey Lancaster, Sharolyn Kimmorley AM, Professor Valeria Esposito (Italy), Stephen Delaney (Vienna), Dr Ron Morris (Queensland Conservatorium & Guildhall School of Music and Drama – London), Dr Irene Bartlett (Queensland Conservatorium), Vince Jones, Kristin Berardi, Sara Serpa (Portugal/New York), Miroslav Bukovsky, Michelle Nicolle and Anita Wardell, to name a significant few.

She has appeared as a soloist at many vice-regal and diplomatic concerts and her broadcast credits include ABC Classic FM, ABC Television, Artsound FM, and ABC 666. Past performance highlights include appearances with George Benson, Song Company, Lisa Moore, Pascal and Ami Rogé, Vince Jones, the late Rob Guest, Lior, Miroslav Bukovsky, and Dr Calvin Bowman.
As an educator, Rachael is an established and sought-after singing voice specialist with around twenty years of experience training singers of all ages and stages of development. She has been on staff at the Australian National University School of Music since 2010, and is the current Jazz and Contemporary Performance Faculty Voice Lecturer. During her time at the School of Music she has taught pre-tertiary, undergraduate and graduate voice students across several genres including jazz, classical, contemporary and music theatre.
Being no stranger to many music genre’s Rachael is also part of Thoms & Coventry jazz duo along with guitarist Lachlan Coventry. Here are the duo performing ‘You Taught My Heart To Sing’.
Rachael remains an avid student of the ever-growing body of voice science research and regularly attends conferences and courses to develop her professional skills as a voice trainer, educator, and performer. She is a member of the Australian Voice Association, Australia’s leading multidisciplinary association for Voice, ANATS, the peak body for teachers of singing in Australia, and the Pan American Vocology Association.
